Weyford Nursery and Primary Academy is proud to have a wide range of cultures and beliefs within our community. We offer an approach to Religious Education (RE) that uses a process of enquiry into concepts. Children have the opportunity to respond from their own experience before being introduced to the way others appreciate things, giving children the ability to see how we may all be the same and then how people view the world differently. This approach gives children the opportunity to evaluate; that is to make a judgement about why something is important for someone else as well as to understand what may be important for themselves.

RE teaching identifies three groups of concepts:

    • concepts common to all people

    • concepts shared by many religions

    • concepts distinctive to particular religions.

Christianity is represented in every key stage and Judaism, Hinduism, Islam and other world religions are all studied throughout the school.

We recognise that parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from RE lessons, wholly or partly.

We warmly encourage you to discuss any concerns with us before making this decision. We believe that a conversation can help us:

    • Share details of our RE curriculum and the topics we cover
    • Address any questions or concerns you may have
    • Explain how RE supports your child's understanding of different cultures and beliefs in our diverse society
    • Explore whether there are particular aspects of RE that concern you, and discuss possible solutions together

Our RE curriculum is designed to be inclusive and respectful of all beliefs. It helps children develop understanding, tolerance, and respect for others – values that are central to our school community.

If you would like to discuss our RE provision, please contact the school office to arrange a meeting. We're here to listen and work together in your child's best interests.
