‘Working Together for Excellence’

Dylan's Poem about what he can see when we walks through the door.

Great green grass dances in the cool breeze of the wind,

Tree breathe as the day goes on,

Talking in the trees are the birds,

Wizzy wonky wasps busily working,

Water walks across the swimming pool.

Dogs barking is as loud as a motorbike,
The decking is as hard as a rock,

The trampoline is as bouncy as ball,

The barbecue has a strong smell like lavender.

The lazy chair is the softest thing you can ever sit on,

The swimming pool is cooler than ice,

Chilly is the wind on a hot day,

Dirt with a dark earthy smell.

Natural nature.

Well done to Emily for her science experiment that shows how the sun appears to move through the sky each day.

Jack has made a model from Play Doh to show the order of the planets from the sun - he also included Pluto, which is a dwarf planet

Today is Catherine's birthday but because of the Coronavirus, she cannot have a party this year. Her best friends, Anna, Maja and Georgia asked if they could bring a bit of the party to the classroom. How could we refuse?

Georgia spotted this bee outside the classroom, so we made some sugar water up and an hour later it had enough energy to fly off.

As part of our Science learning about life cycles, the Rangers from Deadwater Valley took us for a walk. We found out about amphibians, mammals, insects, reptiles and birds.

Heron on World Book Day, as characters from David Walliam's books

We have been learning about balanced and unbalanced forces by playing blow football. We made the teams uneven to show that an object moves more when there is a greater force on it.

We have been learning the Haka in PE - do we look like we could intimidate our opponents?

The Children of Heron, along with Mrs Telford and Mrs Morton would like to thank you all for your help and support in the Autumn term. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Emily is now thinking about entering next year's Great British Bake Off.

To celebrate the end of our topic about the Monarchy, we have made Empire biscuits. Using maths skills, we measured the ingredients and followed the recipe without the help of Mrs Telford or Mrs Morton.

In Heron we have been making Christingles that symbolise advent and celebrate waiting for Jesus, who Christians believe is the Light of the World

This week is Art week and we are learning who Banksy is and finding out about graffiti. Is it art or is it Vandalism. We are designing walls and paths using tessellation.

Today we re-created the picture of King John signing the Magna Carta at Runnymead in 1215. The barons, knights and peasants had had enough of paying taxes; fighting for him and producing food, whilst he spent the money recklessly and lost England's lands in France.

The Highwayman

We have been reading The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes.  Emily is Bess, whilst Theo, Calum and Robbie are the soldiers who have tied her up in front of the window.  They are waiting for the Highwayman to return, so that they can shoot him.

Welcome to Heron's class page.  We will share as much as we can during the year, so keep looking on here if you would like to know what we are up to.

If there is anything that you would like us to include, please ask us.

We are very excited to work with this lovely group of children this year and although we will be working hard, we have a fun-filled year lined up.
